In the clip below we see the evolving land surface motion in the Chesterfield-Mansfield area, North Nottinghamshire.  This is a former coal mining area with extensive collieries across the landscape that have all now ceased working.

Areas of rising ground, due to groundwater recovery emerge as a blue colour whereas subsidence, likely due to collapsing mineworkings underground, is in red.  It is clear from this video that areas rise as a single unit, whereas subsidence starts at a point and spreads outwards.
